JohnBoy and the dog
Found a couple of cameras lying around, and went to Wal-Mart… some of these were of Spooky the dog, so I thought I’d post, being as he hasn’t been seen much here lately… Follow the link:
Spooky is just beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing the pictures of the dog, and of yourself. Is this dog shy or outgoing? Wondering from the pic of the dog kind of hiding behind the banjo. Lovely creature.
Is this dog shy or outgoing?
Very outgoing, very friendly. He is also very smart- possibly the smartest dog we have had around here. As far as his hiding behind the banjo, he likes getting up under things- beds, tables, the recliner, armpits, etc. A picture of him behind or under anything is hard to get, though- if somebody moves, he’ll go wherever they go. Whatever goes on, he has to be part of it. If one us goes up under a car to work on it, he goes with us if he can. If we go outside, he wants to be outside. If we go inside, same deal. I would bet if we set a place at the table he’d probably eat along with us too….
It does sound as if he is smart. Ours likes to be under furniture, also. Especially during thunderstorms. Then he is a little wuss who will hide in the corner behind the curio and just shake and tremble. Ours also must be right where the action is and wants the attention. I used to leash him inside as a puppy after my patience would run out with his pursuit of non-doggie items. He would be fine so long as he were close to us for attention and companionship. The dog takes inventory throughout the day in situating himself where he can keep track of where each family member is.
Especially during thunderstorms.
Young Spooky (as I refer to him sometimes) is afflicted with this also. A sudden thunderclap will often send him hurtling into a nearby lap, or into a bed containing a sleeping person. He has rather extraordinary hearing- begging to be let out so he can bark at a cat wandering across the yard is a good example, although he tends to be somewhat selective about what creatures he barks at. Dad was once standing beside him outdoors, turned around and watched a deer pass by…and the dog merely watched also.
At least Spooky sounds sensible, having the good sense to let some animals go by. I also think that the sense of smell works wonders as well as their hearing ability.
Zacchaeus tolerates Salem across the fence. The insistent barking has stopped, but he will go out and have a few barks to proclaim his presence. This mutt goes absolutely crazy around any squirrel, in what I call his squirrel alert. He also is backing off of the cat who seems to live under our back porch at times. He will sniff and his scruff will go up, but he doesn’t bark. The strangest occurrence was when the dog sat in front of the fishtank and started to bark at them. Zach’s hearing is going with age, though. He will sleep thorugh son’s friend ringing the doorbell, opening the door, and coming in.
Where in NC did you have that much snow???? I thought you only got dustings down there?
Where in NC did you have that much snow
I think those pics were taken in the winter of 04-05. We can get some snow here occasionally. I live in the Piedmont region, although I teach in the foothills- nice place NC- a few hours to the mountains or the beach. In any case, we have had no snow to speak of this winter
